About Saxon Lodge Gansbaai
Saxon Lodge is a boutique hotel situated in Gansbaai, the world’s Great White Shark capital, in the Western Cape, a short, beautiful, 2 hour drive from Cape Town and Cape Town International airport and an hour from L’Agulhas, the southern-most tip of Africa. This makes Saxon Lodge a great central point for exploring the Cape Overberg and its natural bounty.
The lodge was established 10 years ago and was bought and taken over by Dave and Caron in July 2011. It perches majestically above the Gansbaai Harbour providing guests with the opportunity to observe a working harbour in action as trawler boats leave and return with their catch.
The lodge boasts 9 spacious en-suite rooms, most of which have private view verandas with great sea views. All the rooms have just been repainted and individually redecorated to create a tranquil and restful ambiance – a “home from home” feeling. We have double and twin rooms and 2 family suites for families or groups travelling together.
Our Fully Licensed Restaurant is renowned for excellent cuisine and our well-stocked Residents' Pub with a yachting theme is a winner with guests! Saxon Lodge is the ideal venue for small Conferences & Functions. We also cater for Weddings up to 25 guests.
International Mecca for Cage Diving and Whale Watching
A private, well stocked residents’ bar and restaurant provides privacy and exclusivity for guests to enjoy and share their experiences and space with each other. Other facilities include a swimming pool, central lounge with large format TV, FREE WIFI, on-site parking and a viewing deck with spectacular views over Walker Bay and the Overberg mountains. It is commonplace to see the Southern Right Whales frolicking in the bay during their season here and the sunsets are something to behold!!
Saxon Lodge has been and still is host to many film crews and research groups who stay with us while filming and studying the Great White Sharks and Southern Right Whales. Photographs and video footage at the lodge pay homage to the great work being done by these amazing groups of people who are making a difference to our understanding and conservation of these magnificent creatures.
We have also started showcasing local artist’s talent, with some of the rooms having photographs, art, water colours and prints from local artists on display.
